  • The Vermont Bowl Company in conjunction with its parent company, John Mcleod Ltd.is located in Wilmington Vermont where they produce a wide range of wooden items. Their range and selection of wooden bowls is unequalled. Environmental considerations are paramount in their production practices. The parent company, John McLeod Ltd. has been producing in Vermont since 1967 when John arrived from Scotland and fell in love with Vermont. John has been wood turning since 1944 and such experience and love of wood is reflected in the industry recognized quality of the company's products. The company, led in todays time by Tom Fox, has a core of long serving artisans continuing the long tradition of woodworking in the Vermont mountains. Products from the workshop of John McLeod Ltd. and The Vermont Bowl Company have had the honor of being selected by many of the finest retailers in the United States. Green Mountain Bowls: John McLeod with his partner Tom Fox decided to examine the possibility of utilizing their long history and experience of wood turning and lamination to achieve the production of a range of Colonial Bowls. They desired a bowl in the traditional style and appearance which would be ecologically friendly and "Green" not only in name but in fact since they would not be constrained by the size of logs being cut into chunks. An important feature of the methodology employed by the Vermont Bowl Company is that it is possible to produce any size of Colonial Bowl in any species of wood. This is done by using normally harvested lumber to create a blank which they could then turn and make exactly the bowl size required. This of course allows them to make all large bowls or all small bowls or all bowls in between as the need arises. This removes the ever present problem with the old methodology where everyone wants the larger bowls but eschew the side product of the numerous smaller sizes, many of which go to waste.
